Upgrade Your Workspace, Upgrade Your Earnings: Power of a Home Office

home office workspace

Having your own home office space can be a game changer when it comes to increasing your income. In other words, it can provide a dedicated workspace where you can focus and be productive; what is more, according to statistics, “…home-based workers were on average 13% more efficient.” But there are also a number of financial benefits to consider. Having a home office can also allow you to take advantage of tax deductions such as deducting a portion of your rent or mortgage payments, as well as office equipment and supplies. But how do you create a functional and inspiring office space, especially when there’s so little room to spare in your home?

Multipurpose Furniture

When it comes to small spaces, every inch counts. To maximize your workspace you might want to consider investing in multipurpose furniture that can serve multiple functions. For example, a storage ottoman can be used as a seat, a footrest, and a place to store your office supplies. Another item that’s worth considering is a standing desk; they are all the rage nowadays – and for a good reason. They have been shown to improve focus, mood and energy levels, while also considerably reducing back pain and other various health issues. If you’re short on space, consider investing in a corner standing desk. Not only does it maximize your square footage, but a corner standing desk also allows you to switch between sitting and standing positions, which is crucial for maintaining good posture and preventing fatigue.

Greenery and Light

Studies have shown that adding plants to your workspace can improve your mood, reduce stress levels, and increase productivity. So, why not bring some greenery into your small home office? Opt for low-maintenance plants like succulents or snake plants that don’t require a lot of natural light or watering. Aloe vera, ‘Corn Plant’ (Dracaena fragrans), and ‘Janet Craig’ (Dracaena fragrans) are some of the easy-to-maintain plants that are said to produce the most oxygen given their size.

You can even hang them on the wall or place them on a floating shelf to save space. And just like fresh air, good lighting is just as essential for any workspace, but it’s especially important in small home offices. If possible, position your desk near a window to take advantage of natural light. If that’s not an option, invest in a good desk lamp that provides bright, focused light. You can also add some ambient lighting with a floor lamp or some string lights to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

What to Do With an Open-Concept Space?

When working in an open-plan area, it can be difficult to create a sense of boundaries and privacy, which can impact productivity and focus. One solution to this is to use paint to define your workspace. By painting an area in a contrasting color to the rest of the wall, you can visually separate your workspace from the rest of the room. To do this, choose a color that you love and that contrasts well with the main wall color. The area you paint should be roughly the width of your desk and just below ceiling height, so it creates a framed backdrop for your workspace. ‘And by painting just a smaller section of the room you can go really brave or dark with your chosen color.’ said Justyna Korczynska, senior designer at Crown. This will not only help to create a defined workspace, but it can also add visual interest and depth to the room.

So consider upgrading your workspace and watch the difference it makes when it comes to your creativity, functionality and earning potential. And remember, a comfortable and functional workspace can be the key to unlocking your full potential and achieving success in your professional endeavors.
